The Mortar Systems Conference will be held at The Royal Aeronautical Society, London on the 16th & 17th May 2010. The conference is the leading unclassified forum for Mortar Systems in Europe. The conference brings together all the leading Mortar user and manufacturing organisations around the world. The conference will develop the themes discussed in the last 6 years with a series of presentations covering the whole subject area from a military practitioner and an industry technological point of view. Like previous conferences the speakers will be a range of international military and industry subject matter experts.

The Contemporary Operating Environment, improvements in technology, and reduced budgets have, in recent years, contributed to a resurgence of interest in the Mortar among the Armed Forces of many nations. Due to its simplicity of operation and portability the Mortar remains primarily an Infantry Fire Support Weapon in most armies. However, in some armies the Mortar has been introduced as a light weight Artillery system specifically adapted for expeditionary close fire support. Regardless of whether the Mortar is used by the Artillery or Infantry, incremental technological improvements across the entire system including enhanced ammunition, proximity fuses, accurate target acquisition, high accuracy gun laying and computerised fire control systems have improved the scope and efficiency of that fire support. This ensures that the mortar remains a weapon of choice amongst commanders in most nations. The Mortar Systems Conference has examined these changes over the last 7 years and will continue this theme at the 2011 conference.

Why Attend? Whether you are working in industry or you are serving in the armed forces there are currently many Mortar related projects in which you may be interested. These will be discussed at this years conference.
